Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. Passage: John 12:1-11
We saw most of this passage in one of River Run’s recent online services. However, with each new day it seems there is something new that a passage of the Scriptures can show us. This time, reading this passage made me ask a question. How do we show our appreciation of someone? Maybe we take them out to eat, buy them a gift, send them on a vacation, or arrange for them to have a spa treatment? In this passage, Judas questioned if Mary was spending too much on Jesus. While we could look at this from an earthly perspective and say yes, let’s step back and consider eternity. How can we show Jesus how grateful we are for what He has done for us? What kind of gift would be enough? Maybe we should consider following Him more closely and living our lives for Him? May we discover a new way to serve and appreciate Jesus. Giving Him our lives and doing His will is our reasonable service.
