After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. Acts 1:3-4 (NIV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Today, 40 days after we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus, is known as Ascension Day. During the 40 day period between the resurrection of Jesus and His ascension, Jesus appeared to many of His disciples. Ascension Day signifies the day when Jesus returned to His Heavenly Father. Before He left, Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would be sent to His followers. May we be filled with the Holy Spirit and be guided by Him. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
