Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [1/16/19]

Verses: Matthew 5:7-10 (NIV)

Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Father God, I pray that we may extend mercy toward others as You have faithfully extended it to us.  May we be worthy of those blessing You have bestowed upon us as we prepare to enter into Your kingdom.  In the name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray.  Amen.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [1/15/19]

Verses: Matthew 5:3-6 (NIV)

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

Father God, may our spirits be lifted and our hearts be healed.  May we be courageous and without fear as we face life’s challenges.  May we trust you, both physically and spiritually, for our daily provisions.  Amen.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [1/14/19]

Verses” Matthew 4:16, 17 [in part] (NIV)

the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”

…, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Father God, may the light of Christ shine through us today.  May those without Christ as Lord and Savior choose Him and be guided out of the darkness by His light.  In His holy name I pray, amen.

“What Made Him Do It?” – C07 [1/13/19]

Today’s Passage:  Luke 3:15-17, 21-22

Opening Prayer: Father God, as Christians, we stand ready to show You we are eternally grateful that Your grace has led us to make a decision to follow Jesus Christ.  Following Jesus has opened a way for us to have a meaningful relationship with You.  Praise Your holy name!  While we often feel the burdens of living life, we will trust the Holy Spirit to guide us, grow us, and enable us to make wise decisions.  May the Holy Spirit continue to speak to us every day.  May our hearts be open to receive all that You have chosen to reveal to us through Him.  These things and more I pray, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Opening Song: Francesca Battistelli – Holy Spirit (Official Music Video)

Message [used with permission from A Sermon for Every Sunday]: “What Made Him Do It?” by Jim Somerville, Pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday
Jim Somerville preaches a sermon from Luke 3:15-17, 21-22, for Baptism of the Lord Sunday. In this largely autobiographical sermon, Somerville tells the surprising story of his own decision to be baptized, and wonders what made Jesus get up from wherever he was and whatever he was doing and start down the road toward the Jordan River.

Closing Song: Newsboys – We Believe (Official Music Video)

Closing Prayer:  Heavenly Father, while we know many things in this world are uncertain, what we know and believe about You, Your truth, and who we are in Christ Jesus are clear.  Thank you Father God, Lord Jesus, and blessed Holy Spirit; we believe!  May we live this new life, that You have given us, for You.  May You continue to show us how to act in a way that brings glory to Your name.  May we serve You, and only You! Amen.
